The jewel of the North

Kelp is one of the ocean’s most powerful resources.

Naturally rich in polysaccharides, fiber, and bioactive compounds, it has become a key ingredient across industries.

Whether you have questions about our kelp, want to explore partnerships, or simply say hello, feel free to reach out.

Our product

Leveraging our decades of experience in drying seafood products, we have developed a unique low temperature drying process, focused on preserving and protecting the active compounds in kelp. Additionally, by separating lamina, stipe and holdfast prior to drying our customers can maximise yield in downstream processing.

How we harvest it

We aim to preserve the ecosystem

To harvest kelp a comb is drawn through the kelp forest on the seabed, and the largest kelp is pulled up, where the smaller and newest plants are left behind and given space and sunlight to grow. When our vessel is full, we head back and separate lamina, stipe and holdfast to maximise the valorisation potential of our products.

How we process it

All our material is dried using low temperature drying chambers (>40°C) run on geothermal energy. After drying we mill the kelp into fine particles, ready for further downstream processing. Our product is dried within 24 hours of sourcing so there is no need to add preservatives or chemical treatments, just clean, raw seaweed in its purest form.

The parts we use

The lamina

Rich in laminin and alginate

The leaves of Laminaria hyperborea are rich in mono- and polysaccharides such as alginate, laminin, polyphenols and other active ingredients, making it ideal for biostimulant use or for the extraction of bioactive compounds.

The stipe

Source of high guluronic acid alginate

The stipe (stem) of Laminaria hyperborea is rich high-G alginate, giving it increased gelling capacity. In addition to the alginate, other polysaccharides such as laminin and fucoidan increase its bioactive potential. This dense, fibrous material can be used to extract high value alginate, for biostimulants in agriculture, or as a base for cosmetic products.

Shipping

We ship globally from Iceland. From the sea, to your door. Every batch is traceable from harvest to delivery. We emphasise transparency and compliance with import standards, so you receive clean, consistent seaweed, ready for your process.
