Valur ÓF-51 becomes Nordkelp's first harvesting vessel

The joyous event occurred in september 2024 that Nordkelp acquired the fishing vessel Valur, registration number 1440, off of Gunnvör in Ísafjörður.

The vessel will gain a new role as a harvesting boat for tangle (Laminaria hyperborea) in our kelp harvesting and drying operation in Ólafsfjörður.

It is safe to say that we have acquired an experienced player as there are not many ways of fishing of the coast of Iceland that Valur has not been used for. To name a few examples, Valur has been used for gillnetting, collecting shellfish in Breiðafjöður, long-line fishing, shirp fishing in Ísafjarðardjúp and not to mention Valurs experience with minke whale hunting.

Now Valur has taken on yet another identity as our very first tangle harvesting vessel, which we are very excited for.
