Harvesting Laminaria hyperborea in Tröllaskagi

Another major event in our company history occurred in September 2024 when Nordkelp secure the first permanent commercial license for harvesting tangle of the north coast of Iceland.

After extensive talks with the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute, the Ministry of Industries and other stakeholders the Directorate of Fisheries has greenlit our kelp harvesting license in the north.

This is a major milestone on our path towards harvesting and drying kelp with the goal of manufacturing high end ingredients for bioactive markets.

Our goal at Nordkelp is to utilise fully the existing infrastructure in Ólafsfjörður to manufacture quality low-temperature dried Laminaria hyperborea, emphasising the unique bioactive ingredient combinations found in the lamina, stipe and holdfast of this amazing wonder of the sea.
